On one occasion certain Greeks approached one of the 12 disciples and said: “Sir, We would see Jesus.” Certainly that should be the desire of every one of us this Easter.

As the chorus says, “Open my eyes Lord, I want to see Jesus….” How do you see Jesus today? As a great teacher? A great religious leader? A prophet? A miracle worker?

Various people went to the empty tomb on that first Easter morning. What did they see? How did they see? Bible scholars have sought to explain the different perspectives and understanding of some of those early witnesses to the resurrection. They argue:

1. Mark saw only with the eye. The Greek word used is blepō, which means “to see or look at.”

2. Peter saw with the mind. The word used is theōreō, from which is derived the English word theory. In the Greek it means to “check something out or investigate.”

3. John saw with the heart. The word used is eidon, which means “to see with the heart and believe.”

We must not be too harsh on the early disciples because, as verse 9 points out, at that time they still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead but we, who have the benefit of the full Gospel before us, have no excuse. Like John, we must see with the heart and believe that Jesus is our wonderful, living Saviour and Lord. Then, grounded in that belief, we can go forward in confidence to love and serve our families, friends and community and to ensure they hear the good news of salvation this Easter.

“WESLEY HALL” REUNION
More than 50 years ago, a thriving after-church young people’s fellowship used to meet at the Wesley Hall schoolroom.
In its heyday as many as 200 young people from all parts of the Western Valley and further afield gathered to praise God.
On Saturday, May 10th (3.30pm) a special “Wesley Hall” reunion will be held at Tabernacle, organised by some of the original leaders including Clive Sheridan and Len Rowlands.
Please pass on this information to anyone you know who attended the Wesley Hall meetings in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
