GOD SUPPLIES OUR NEEDS BUT NOT ALWAYS OUR WANTS!

Philippians 4:19 – “My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus,”

You have heard the old saying “God helps those who help themselves.” Many people think that this is in the Bible. Well, it isn’t. In fact, the opposite is true if we follow God’s Word. “God helps those who cannot help themselves!”

One thing that we all do is worry. Trials and tribulations come along and fill our lives and sometimes we seem to lose our way. Instinctively we look to God but our faith totters and we really doubt if He can help.

Life can  be unkind. There are many people – even in our own community – with hearts that are broken, with dreams that are shattered, and with needs so heavy that they are burdened down to a point that they believe is beyond all hope.

We must always remember that God is faithful. No matter if we feel discouraged or disheartened we must embrace the truth of God’s faithfulness. If we focus on our problems and troubles instead of God’s faithfulness, we are  heading  down the  dangerous road that  leads to discouragement and unbelief. We must trust Him and know that He is faithful to us His children. He will take care of us.

As we trust, we must be able to distinguish between what is a need, and what is a desire. Many times small children want things they do not need. It is the wisdom of the parent which supplies the needs of the child. The same is true of us, God’s children; we often want things which could ultimately harm our lives.

The Apostle Paul tells the Philippians that God does not promise to supply all our desires or wishes, but He promises that He will supply, and fulfil all our needs. Some may read these words and think they need certain things for their lives and pray for frivolous items. Others seek God in earnest for guidance; for strength against temptation, for happiness in a marriage, or the need for employment.

“Ideally, every prayer of intercession we utter should be for the Lord’s will to be done, nothing more, and nothing less. Only His perfect will.” John Paul Thomas,

WE’RE UNDERWAY!!

Our new Vision Centre is up and running although some  finishing work still has to be completed.

The new facilities had a “baptism of fire” from July 21- 31 when a large group of American/Korean visitors, helping to support the Summer Bible Clubs, used the centre as a base. Then Slimming World, who will be regularly hiring the facilities, held the first of their twice-weekly sessions on Tuesday, August 1. The group will be using the top-floor Treowen hall on Tuesdays (2-7pm) and the  ground  floor Tynewydd room on Saturdays (7am -2pm)

A newly – formed Newbridge detachment of the Army Cadets is also hiring the Tynewydd room and the first floor Bryngwyn rooms on Tuesdays (6.30 -9.30pm). We will not be hiring out the facilities on Sundays.

The Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations will be taking over all of the Vision Centre facilities on Thursday, November 2,  (8am to 3pm) for a “One Beat” conference/exhibition.

All external groups and organisations meeting at the Vision Centre will use for access the new side entrance nearest to the Newbridge Trading Centre. A series of CCTV cameras have been strategically sited externally and within the building, along with a new burglar alarm system, to provide added security and protection.

The Gwent Baptist Association will continue to hold its monthly Officers’ meetings at Tabernacle but will be switching from the main schoolroom  to the Bryngwyn room. The High Five Youth Club’s Friday evening sessions will be based in the Treowen room from now on while our Sunday School will also be using the new facilities. Pastor Peter’s new office is sited on the ground floor near the Tynewydd room.

Please pray that these new opportunities – and others in the pipeline- to meet different people will enable us to share the love of Christ with them.
